Migration in progress - Lock Screen and Legal Notice

Logging in before the migration completes
Users should NEVER log in before the migration has been completed. If moving join states, there will be two reboots before they should log on to their device. If the user logs in BEFORE the migration completes, they are almost certainly going to break the migration process - specifically around re-permissioning their Windows User Profile. This is because as soon as they log in, they will lock their registry as it will be in use, and the Migration Agent will not be able to run through and re-permission the relevant keys by updating the ACLs.
This KB article will help mitigate users logging in prematurely with the following three features:
- Lockscreen background image – Lets the end-user know the migration is in progress.
- Legal Notice – If an end-user attempts to sign in, they will see a customizable warning.
- Prevent Login – If an end-user still tries to login, this feature will actively block them until the migration process is complete.
Note: The features above are available in PowerSyncPro version 3.2 and above.
Project Communication
Your project should include clear and obvious instruction advising users not to attempt to log in during the migration event, however we all know that with all the will in the world, and the repeated comms that are sent out, not all users will read and follow the instructions.
Discourage Logging In

On the Startup tab of your Runbooks you are able to configure a Migration in Progress image. Whilst this is optional, we strongly urge customers to use this option.
You can choose your own custom image to match your corporate branding, or we provide a Default option seen below:

Need more? Not convinced that users still won't attempt to login? Over and above the LockScreen Image, as an additional “belt & braces" option, we would also recommend an extra gate for users to pass through so that they do not attempt to log in during the migration event.
This is configured using two options directly in the web interface:
Step 1
On the Runbook | Startup tab – Enable the Set Legal Notice option
Step 2
In the Runbook | User Experience tab – Click the Legal Notice box on the bottom and enter the desired text. Here is an example:
Legal Notice Caption: MIGRATION IN PROGRESS
Legal Notice Text: The migration process on your computer is not yet complete. Are you sure you wish to sign in? Continuing with the sign in process early may cause the migration of your computer to fail.
Prevent Login
Need even more? Should the end-user communication and legal notice not be enough, we also offer the ability to actively block the premature login of users who are known to use a particular device. This option will allow local accounts, and users that are not mapped in the translation table, to login without issue.
